Courses Piloting Prerequisite: Boating This course take the material learned in Boating and enhances it with more advanced knowledge of boat handling in rough weather and emergency situations. It enhances the plotting skills learned in the Boating course by adding coastal navigation, relative bearings, running fixes, effects of current and leeway and the famous marlin spike certificate. Advanced Piloting Prerequisite: Piloting Advanced coastal navigation principles, charting and plotting will enable you to know where you are at all times. Your boats position can be determined by using landmarks, and aids to navigation allowing for current and leeway, tides and tidal currents. It offers new skills in steering and timing a course, additional chart familiarization, tides and tidal currents, electronic navigation aids and the sextant.
